While we often cover technical content, RISE exists to serve and grow the InfoSec talent in the Roanoke area. “How do I get started in InfoSec” is a common question from those trying to break into the profession. Perhaps this is you. Or perhaps you want to pursue InfoSec but have doubts that hold you back. Maybe you hesitate because of a lack of a degree, lack of contacts, or lack of experience. Resolve to come to the January RISE meeting to hear Ken Nevers’ journey to InfoSec.
Ken Nevers is a RISE regular and has offered to share his fascinating life story. Needing a change in direction he found interest in computers and a particular calling to security. Starting at bottom with a deficit from prior events, the path was not easy. But Ken’s tale is one of determination, initiative, seeking out the right resources, and proving his desire to learn. Come hear what prompted Ken to seek this path, the challenges he faced, and how he navigates those obstacles to the success that he continues to build.
