Capture the Flag challenges offer the opportunity to improve your InfoSec skills whether you are a seasoned penetration tester or just starting your journey. An InfoSec novice may not sweep the competition but they will certainly improve their knowledge. Trying new things can be hard especially in a profession that contains talent that, at times, seems untouchable. Let’s calm those fears with a CtF demonstration and review.

RISE and the Roanoke Linux Users Group have teamed up to present a CtF demonstration at our September meeting. Attendees will be introduced to the Virginia Cyber Range, a first-class environment that enables educators and students across the Commonwealth to take part in cyber education exercises. We’ll see how to leverage the Range through demonstration of a Jeopardy-style CtF environment. As time permits, interested attendees will be able to break into small groups to experience Range tools first-hand, testing their skills on the challenge. Whether you are an InfoSec geek, a student, or educator interested in the tools available through the Virginia Cyber Range you’ll pick up some great information at this meeting. Plus – take the opportunity to meet and network with other local InfoSec professionals!

Location & Parking

Virginia Tech Roanoke Center is located on the 7th floor of the Roanoke Higher Education Center (108 N. Jefferson St, Roanoke, VA). Limited parking will be available in student lots with a parking pass (available to RISE mailing list subscribers). Additional paid parking is available in adjacent Park Roanoke lots around the building at normal rates. Please refer to posted rates at the lot.
