Valued BSides Roanoke Guests,
We have all been impacted on a personal and professional level by the novel coronavirus pandemic. The planned date for BSides Roanoke 2020 is fast approaching but uncertainty remains on the status of social gatherings through Spring. Our commitment to bringing a successful conference has not waivered. However, we need to make adjustments to deal with the current contingency.
As the first of its kind in our area, we feel that BSides should continue as an in-person, rather than virtual, conference. A personal connection among participants, speakers, and sponsors cannot be matched by a virtual event. However, the situation on social gatherings in the May time frame is unknown. Working closely with our venue, Virginia Western, we will be delaying the event until July 11, 2020. It is our hope that the situation has stabilized by that time frame yet it is close enough to the original date to reduce impact on all involved. The Call for Papers deadline has been extended to May 30th. We look forward to your proposals!
Our hope is to build relationships, boost skills, and spark curiosity in the Roanoke IT community. We want the conference to be a safe and rewarding experience for all guests. Though we have been dealt a difficult situation, rest assured we are doing everything we can to move forward consistent with State recommendations for the safety of all. If you have any questions, reach out to us at email@example.com.
